Hello everyone! Welcome back for Day Nine of the Twelve Days of Holiday Cards! Don't forget to comment below for your chance to win one of the daily prizes from my first Holiday Feature Event.
This card was pretty quick even though I super layered all of the poinsettia die-cuts. I used the Poppy Stamps Blooming Poinsettia and the Small Blooming Poinsettia and die cut three of each. Since my dies are still wired together (minus the leaf on the larger one), This meant I could run all of them through in three passes. I used half sheets that I had in my scrap bin for the flowers. I used a lot of shimmer mist on the half sheets before cutting them out so I did that a bit ahead of time so my cardstock would be dry when I cut it.
I love these blooming poinsettias in both sizes. By cutting extras you can add as many layers as you want and you can mix both the larger and smaller layers to make lots and lots of dimension. I just used the smallest layer from the large bloom to make the small poinsettia a little larger.
I also shimmer misted some Fresh Asparagus Cardstock from Gina K Designs and let that dry to cut the leaves from for all of the blooms. By the time I was finished assembling all the bloom layers, the cardstock for the leaves was dry. I used the Studio Katia Gold Foiled Pearls for the flower centers in a variety of sizes.
The pink, gold, and cream background paper is a scrap from my bin. I also cut the Pine Needle Oval Frame (the exterior one) from Gold Foiled Cardstock to frame up my blooms.
I used Rectangle Basics for the mat layers and also one of the smaller rectangles to die cut the Sentiment Strip. With so many sizes in the Rectangle Basics set, you have a size for pretty much any sentiment you might need. I'm pretty particular about what kind of font I like for Sentiments, and this is one from a Papertrey Ink set. It's just a classic sentiment. I'm not a big fan of the all lower case look that is very popular, so I used one from my stash.
As you can see, this was super easy to put together. It was just a matter of assembling everything with the exception of doing a heat embossed sentiment. That only takes a few minutes, so it was super easy as well.
I try to keep things mostly simple - usually a three-colored color scheme - (gold counts as a neutral in my book) and just a pretty simple and straightforward design. I think frames work well for most types of cards as it helps to ground your images.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I promise I am going to try to find a different color scheme for tomorrow, but I'm happy so many of you have enjoyed my pink and gold creations! Don't forget to leave a comment for your chance to win one of 12 Daily Prizes.

Another swooner! What a beautiful mix! The striped background is a fun addition, but this would be lovely on plain cream, too!

ReplyDeleteHi Vicki,
ReplyDeleteHoly Alcapurria-Puerto Rican YUMMY fritter-!!!!! If I thought the first poinsettia card took my breath away, this one left me asking for oxygen! This one deserves the self invented adjective of SCRUMPTILICIOUS, the joining of scrumptious and delicious......and you are so welcome my friend!

Pink Poinsettias are my favorite! I had the opportunity to make some myself this year - your card is stunning - the layout is amazing and I love how the colors blend so nicely - 2 of my favorite colors are pink and green!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful card. I really like the addition of the oval frame.
