Classic Rose Frame Card with Memory Box

Hi there and thanks for stopping by today!  I wanted to work with some products from the most recent Memory Box Spring 2020 Collection so I pulled some papers and dies together to see what I could come up with for today's post.

I've been taking a Watercolor for Paper Crafters Class so I've been spending a lot of time practicing.  I am so excited to be getting better and even finally put my paints into a palette!  For me, that is a commitment - so I'm all in now.  However, since I did a watercolor project for the previous two Fridays, I wanted to do something different for you today.

In the most recent release, there were several paper collections released in addition to stamps and dies.  There's a beautiful patterned paper pad called "Springtime Bouquet" and as usual, while all the papers are beautiful, there's a certain one that tugs at my heart!  Of course, it is this pink bloomed print that I just love.  This particular paper pad has mostly softer, pastel colors and each sheet is double-sided with a different print on the reverse side.  I really hate it when there's an especially loved print on both sides because then I have to choose.  Haha!

I also used a sheet of the Glitter Paper from the Delicate Pastels Glitter Paper Pad.  It is a very soft pink so to brighten it up, I used the chisel tip of a Copic Marker to add color to it.  This works great and is easy to do.  I really never use the chisel tip end for anything except this type of thing.  You can also use that end if you want to quickly color in a white Prima Flower or other types of paper flowers to get an exact match.  I did the same thing on a scrap of the same glitter paper to get the behind layer for the Flitter Side Butterfly.  Like the Classic Rose Frame, I cut the butterfly from Gold Foiled Cardstock.

The Classic Rose Frame has two thin frames and the smaller one has the rose as part of the die.  There is also a coordinating die to cut the full rose shape out from a different cardstock. You could also die cut a second one and do die cut inlay.  The paper I used for this was a scrap of leftover paper from one of my watercolor projects and it was just big enough to cut the shape from.  I had used some light pink watercolor paint with some iridescent gold paint to create a wash, so that's why you see that little bit of shimmer on the rose.

For the Sentiment, I used one from Poppy Stamps (another Memory Box Company) called Greeting Basics along with a set of die, Colwell Label Set that works with the sentiments in this set.  I was able to layer the dies which is super cool.  I stamped on a piece of white cardstock, die-cut it and then cut the mat from a piece of glitter paper in the Twinkling Jewel Paper Pack.

I just love the font used for these sentiments so I asked Dave (our owner) if it was okay to use the sentiments from Poppy Stamps, one of our Sister Companies.   I have those linked for you here; by clicking on the images it will take you to the Poppy Stamps Store.

You could add more dimension to this style of a card by using foam tape or fun foam between each layer.  Because I mail most of my cards, I try to keep the dimension to a postal "acceptable" level.  The ones I don't mail, go to my sisters-in-law for their Holiday Goodie Bags and they mail them.  for the butterfly, since it was on the label that I had popped up on fun foam, I did a double thickness of foam behind the wing to make it look right.

I added the base panel with the glitter mat and the Classic Rose Frame die-cut to a white, top folding card base and then added the other elements.  I used my Rectangle Basics Dies to cut the background panels.  Hint:  When adding color to the glitter paper, there's no need to do the whole panel.  I just went around about a half-inch all the way around the edge which was enough to cover up the rest of what I didn't color in.

I am anxious to make another card using the same patterned paper, although it will mean using up my last sheet, but I have another idea so maybe you'll see that next week.  Friday is usually my regular day to be up over at the Memory Box Blog so be sure to check there as well.  We try to have a blog post every day for you over there and we do really great at that.  Don't forget to check in there for occasional videos as well.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you've found a bit of inspiration here to create your own project! If you have any questions or if there's something you'd like more information about, don't hesitate to ask.  I did want to mention that while the Flitter Side Butterfly is still available, it isn't carried at SSS at this time.  You can ask them to carry it for you!  It is item MB94002.

Memory Box Wild Rose Stem Stamps & Dies

Hello there and welcome to my blog!  I'm also up at Outside The Box, (the Memory Box Blog) today, so be sure to stop by either place.  Today, I am featuring the newly released Wild Rose Stem Stamps and Dies.  I love wild roses although, in reality, they are a pale pink or rose color.  The great thing about what we do is we can make them any color we want.

This color wasn't my intent when I started but it kind of snowballed into this.  My primary objective was just some pale pink.  I recently signed up for a watercolor class.  I haven't started my homework or classwork yet, but I've been "collecting" a couple of tubes of Daniel Smith Watercolors a couple at a time over the last year or so, and I have about 26 colors right now.  They have over 300 colors, so I am just getting some basics and some neutrals and will mix colors.  I have two or three of each color family and a neutral buff and a couple of greys.  I'm also learning how to mix colors as part of a Facebook Group I'm in.  So this kind of started as one project and turned into class practice only a couple of layers into it. I switched from Watercolor Pencils to Daniel Smith Watercolors after that.

I used a little Sap Green on the leaves but my focus today was on the petals and getting a much better look than I have previously.  I'm very happy with this first attempt although I can see many things I will do differently next time.  This is a great image for practice as the petals are large and you can create your own depth.  I can tell you that I will add deeper shadow layers on my next try.  It does look so different after it dries.  I used Quinacridone Purple and Quinacridone Pink for the petals.

I love the look of watercolor and I really want to get better at it so, I've been "collecting" information, thoughts, and experiences of friends who are successful in this endeavor.  This is my first try at this particular method and I am so excited to do more.  For the little stamen on the wild roses, I used Plum Shimmer Fairy Sugar (a new product) to make the deep purple dots.

After I watercolored the blooms, I die cut it with the coordinating die and grabbed the new Springtime Bouquet Patterned Paper Pad to decide which paper I wanted to use to put my card together.  I'm a sucker for stripes, especially this more narrow version, and the lovely pastel colors make me think of Spring which is hopefully right around the corner here in North Texas.  I used a piece of Winter Wisteria Cardstock to die cut one of the Matinee Rectangles to use as a label.  I also really love the font and style of this Poppy Stamps Sentiment Stamps Set called "Springtime Fun".  Poppy Stamps is also a Memory Box Company.  I love elegant and this font suits me to a "T"!

As usual, I heat embossed my image and my sentiment with Versamark and Antique Gold Embossing Powder from Simon Says Stamp.  Using a blending brush, I went all around the outside edges with the matching ink to darken the edges.  I just love how this card turned out and how much my watercolor improved.

I still enjoy learning and trying new techniques to share with you all as much as possible. Time is not always my friend.  But watercolor has my whole heart and I will continue to practice and improve. If you look for my friend, Emily Midgett, from Sixth Street Sundries, she is the person teaching this class and I have had several lightbulb moments and I'm only two days in with no practical applications except this.  I think I might finally get pretty decent at this.  Thank goodness, it's a self-paced course so you have lifetime access.

If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments and I will do my best to answer any questions.  Emily's class is available through Altenew Academy and I think it runs around $9.00, which is well worth it for anybody's dollar.  I love being able to go back and review classes, especially in a case where it's something that isn't in my normal wheelhouse, but I really want to succeed.  You have to keep trying, practicing, and reviewing.  Being able to go back to the video at any time is awesome!  Don't give up if it's something that you really want to do.

Poppy Stamps Adriana Easel Pop Up Card Die

Hello friends and visitors.  I am going to try to do a quick post for you today, just because!  I have been so sick for three weeks and today is my first day of feeling almost normal.  I still have just a bit of a cough, but the rest of me is feeling pretty dang good!  My MS Treatments have helped already which is so encouraging.

I absolutely fell in love with this die when Dave Brethauer did a video of this over on the Memory Box YouTube Channel last weekend.  Click on that hyperlink to follow it to their Channel.   I'm on the Memory Box Design Team but Dave included this die in a recent purchase I made from Poppy Stamps. I was so excited to get it because it is simply genius and makes creating an easel card so super easy - no measuring involved.  The score lines are engineered into the die. I also love how it has all the elements built into the die set for easy assembly of Easel Cards so that the recipient can display it.

My first card uses some of the new Memory Box Glitter Papers from the Delicate Pastels Glitter Pad along with some gold foiled cardstock and two different shades of Pink Cardstock - Hibiscus Burst and Pale Peony from Papertrey Ink.  The die itself comes on a Magnet Sheet to keep all the elements together. If you are very careful you can get both the bottom of the card and the top of the card from a single sheet of 8.5 x 11-inch cardstock using your Gemini Full Size Die Cutting Machine.  A sheet of 12 x 12 is easy peasy by cutting it in half.  I used my Cuttlebug with the extended cutting pads and Cutting a 4.35-inch by 11-inch for4 the card base and then the leftovers for the card top.  You may need to move it up and down the piece to find where it fits the best.  In this instance, because there are many layers and I have a lot of 12 x 12 Cardstock left from my scrapbooking days, I think you could go with a lighter weight cardstock.  I have not tried that, but I don't think you'd have any problem using a lighter weight for the top and bottom.

The decorative layer could be used in many ways and I tried to show you a few more here that are different than what Dave showed in his video. I would definitely say to use a very gentle touch and heavier cardstock for this particular layer as the little branches tear off very easily.  Also, use a traditional die cutting machine vs the electric ones for this layer if you have one.  I found that this piece tore just cutting it in the electric machine, even when I made the sandwich less tight.  I personally, still use my hand-crank machine more often than my electric machine. In the instance where my decorative layer got torn up, I used an oval die to cut the center and heat emboss my sentiment onto.

I made a couple of variations of this card, switching up the colors and papers.  The left hand is done in Blueprint Shimmer Cardstock with Silver Cardstock, the Green is some watercolor I did on a piece of #140 Canson Watercolor Paper with some Fairway Green Shimmer Cardstock and the Pnks as I mentioned above.  Each of these cards has the interior layer cut from Glitter Cardstock from Memory Box.

I used a couple of different Memory Box Dies to add to the little labels that let you pop it up.  The Blue Card has little silver birds from the Birds & Blossoms Die (#94243) and the butterfly is the one that I keep on my desk all of the time.  I used it on the pink and the green cards.

I wanted to challenge myself to use this die in a more masculine way, so I chose Curious Skin Black Cardstock, which is totally matte. It never gets shiny and it feels so unusual.  It's a great paper to use for anything black.  I also used the little birds from Bird & Blossoms again. for the little inside tag again.  I forgot the foam tape here, which helps to give a little height to what is holding the easel part in place for display.  So it still worked, but it would have worked better had I remembered the foam tape.

I wanted to provide you with this side view so you can see how the easel stays up.  I have so many other combinations I want to try.  I'm waiting on an order from Poppy Stamps for some other sentiments. These cards use Poppy Stamps Butterfly Greetings and Blooming Greetings.

I cannot wait to see how many other designs Dave comes up with for this easel card die design.  I can see Holly and Berries with Mistletoe at Christmas, and many other things that I think I'll have to start making a list of them!

Last but not least is a card that I made for my daughter to give to her best friend that is getting married in a few weeks.  I don't think she has time to visit my blog, so I am going to post it here rather than in my IG feed.

I used an Iceberg Metallic Cardstock which is close to a periwinkle color with a white front panel, and a  Violet Satin Shimmer Cardstock for the interior panel.  I remembered the Foam Tape this time around.

I like to use foam tape on the front end of the butterfly and glue to hold down the back end.  My glue of choice is Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  For this card, since it is for a special occasion, I used Aurora Borealis Swarovski Crystals in the 12 and 16 sizes.

One of the really cool things is that this card still fits in a standard A2 Envelope.  If I were mailing this card, I would probably use a padded mailer or a "flat" mailer.  Since my daughter is the Matron of Honor, I happen to know she'll be delivering it in person.  I hope you enjoy today's blog post, just for fun!  I'll be back on Thursday and Friday with posts for Memory Box!

Have a great day all!
