Memory Box Blog Blitz - Day Five + Giveaway

I started by selecting a patterned paper from the Dashing Holiday Paper Pad which has a matte black background with a holly design on it.  It's my favorite from the pack.  I gave it my usual treatment of shimmer mist and set it aside while I did a bit of die-cutting to put my card together.

Bauble Snowflake Corner

I die cut a Bauble Snowflake Corner from white cardstock.  I almost always use #110 cardstock for everything.  I also wanted to use a few other new dies, including the Merry Christmas Noted Script die and two Corner Holly Swirls from some scraps.  These were cut from some loosely watercolored paper that I had done for another project which will be coming up, so they were kind of a lighter green than what I wanted for this card.  By doing some ink blending with a small ink blending brush around the exterior edges of everything, it deepened the color to something more in keeping with my background paper.  The sled and the sentiment are both cut from red satin cardstock.

After I die cut the Corner Holly Swirls, I embellished them with some Icicle Stickles and set them in my window sill to dry.  This is actually one of my favorite things about my studio is my large picture window just above my glass countertop.  It gets the afternoon sun and is a great place to let things (especially watercolor things) dry.

I attached the background paper to a top folding A2 card base and then loosely laid my elements out on my card front until I got a look that I liked.  Initially, I was planning to use the entire Bauble Snowflake Corner, but it seemed too much for everything else I had going on with this card, so I attached it with just a portion of the corner and cut the excess off.

Next, I placed the sled over the Bauble Snowflake Corner.  You can probably see that I embellished what would normally be the metal parts of the sled, with some Christmas Red Stickles. Next came the Corner Holly Swirls, complete with more of the Xmas Red Stickles on the berries, attached to the lower left and upper right-hand corners of my card.  The Holly Leaves were also embellished with a bit of Icicle Stickles by using the tip of the bottle to "paint" them on the leaves.  In some cases, I find Stickles easier to work with than Nuvo Drops as they have a transparent base making them perfect when you want a "touch" of sparkle without completely covering the elements in glitter.  I added a single of the smallest Bauble Snowflakes in the upper left corner.  That left the perfect place for my sentiment.

The little speckles that are visible on the patterned paper, are the bits of shimmer in my shimmer mist.  I'm working on my photos to show you with and without props to make it easier for Memory Box to add projects to their website.

This card really catches the light and I don't feel the pictures does it justice!  I added little gems to the center of the single snowflake and for the dot on the "i" in Christmas.
