Blog Hop List:

I have quite a few Altenew Stencils and while I tend to forget what a great option they are, preparation for this blog hop brought them right to the forefront of my mind and how versatile they are.  If you've ever wished for a matching patterned paper for your project or a way to jazz up your background panels, this is the easiest answer in the world for getting exactly that. I have several projects for you today so let's dive right in!

First up is one of my favorite stencils, Linear Stencil, with a stamp set that was released yesterday in the Altenew September 2020 Release called Positive Vibes.  I just love this set!  I have already made several cards with it and I am sure I will be making many more.

For my stenciling, I used some pale blue shimmer cardstock and Aqualicious Ink with a blending brush.  You can use some Pixie Spray to hold your stencil in place or tape it from the backside.  For my stamping, I first stamped the outline in Misty Morning from the Tranquility Ink Set.  This color is a pale, cool gray.  Then leaving my outline stamp in one Misti, I moved to my Mini Misti and stamped all the layers.  I love the very high contrast in these blooms, achieved by using Aqualicious for the base
layer of color with Galactic Stream for the detail layer.  The foliage is stamped with Frayed Leaf with Forest Glades for the detail layer.  Then moving my cardstock back to the original Misti, I stamped the outline again in Versamark and heat embossed using Altenew Antique Silver Embossing Powder.  I also heat embossed the sentiment strip with the same Embossing Powder to keep with the blue and silver theme of the card.  I added a few sequins with some jewels in the center to finish off this card.

Next up I have a card made using the Sunburst Stencil with some previously colored flowers from the Hello Gorgeous Stamp & Die Set.  Gladiolus was one of my grandfather's favorite flowers and he planted them in his garden each year alongside his tomatoes, string beans, and other vegetables.   In July, I taught a Zoom Class for Altenew that used this stamp and die set and when I was figuring out which two cards I would be able to fit in the 1-hour time slot, this one did not make the cut, but I still had the watercolored pieces to use on another project.

Next up is a card using the Tranquil Wings Stencil.  I used a leftover piece of Silver shimmer cardstock and added Ocean Waves ink in the larger, fully open wing shape.  Next, I went in with a  blue-grey from the Tranquility Set using Nimbus.  I heat set the ink and then went in with a finger dauber and put Versamark into each of the openings and used a clear sparkle embossing powder, heat setting it.  A few sequins and jewels add the finishing touches.

For my last project today, I have a card that uses a stencil with one of the recently released Altenew String Art Dies, the Butterfly.

I started by ink blending Forest Glades Ink over the Sunburst Stencil on a pale green cardstock using an ink blending brush.

Next, I carefully placed the String Art Butterfly Die in the position that I wanted in on my card panel and ran it through my die cut machine.  This pokes the holes but does not cut anything out.  I fiddled with it for quite a while to get the strings crisscrossed how I wanted them to look.

I added die cuts from the Leaf Mix Die Set, using the open-work dies to match the look of the butterfly.  I love the Mixed Leaf Die Set and all the possibilities in the set.  When I first started making cards, I didn't have stamps, so I made cards using all stand-alone dies.  I still like to do this type of card now although I wouldn't trade my stamps and die in either.

I hope I've inspired you to try some new ideas for using Stencils.  There are so many possibilities for using Stencils with Texture or embossing paste, Deco Foil Transfer Gel and your inks.

I'd love to know which card here is your favorite!  My favorite from this group is the first one with the blue flowers and stencil on the background.  The products I've used are linked below and I always appreciate it when you order through my affiliate links.  Unless I am guest designing, I pay for all of my products and it helps me to bring fresh, fun, and new content to you.

  10. Wow! I was ready to say I liked your first card until I saw all the rest. You sure have shown how one should dig through their stash of stencils and start to use them to make their own patterned paper! I do like the first card the best, though!
