My first card features a stamp set called “Wherever You Go”. To me, this stamp had a decidedly Vintage feel to it and so I water colored it using Karin Markers and a water brush. My favorite part of this card is the Red Door I created with Lipstick Red. We live in a new and not yet completed subdivision that is completely Craftsman Style Homes. I thought this little painted scene would make a really cute Welcome card for the many new neighbors that are always moving in. I also really love the mud bench with the hats and coats hanging on it. We had one of these built into our home. In our last home, we had this style of mud-room and we wanted to make sure it was included in this house since we have no coat closet. Even though we live in Texas, we are in the far north part of the state and we get a variety of weather from the really stinkin’ hot to even the occasional ice and snow in the winter. You only have to drive about five miles to be in Oklahoma, so our weather tends to be more like theirs than even an hour south of us, which is Dallas.
Next up I have a sweet little card that I’m planning to send to one of my grandsons. While their dad is tall at 6’ 3”, my daughter is not. She is not quite 5 feet tall, and neither of my little boys have hit their growth spurt yet. One just started third grade while the other just started 7th grade. They are very active and athletic, but they haven’t sprouted UP yet. I love the sentiment, “I am little but I bee fierce” and think it would be perfect to send to either of them. I think it is especially hard for the Junior High aged grandson because he keeps hoping he’ll hit his growth spurt early.
For the background of this card, I used Distress Oxide Inks in Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey with the Honeycomb Stencil, working from dark to light, bottom right to upper left, so at a diagonal. To give a little bit more of that golden glow, I spritzed it with Tattered Angel Shimmer Mist in Iridescent Gold. I left it all dry and then stamped the little bees and the sentiment from the “I Bee Fierce” stamp set using Versafine Onyx Black and sprinkled clear embossing powder over the top to help them really pop out from the card. I used some flat discs in Black and Gold for the accents. I used a black panel for the background layer to frame up the card front panel.
Next up, I have a card I made using the Honey Dear Stamp Set. I did some quick and easy Copic Coloring for this card. I don’t have very many yellows in my collection, so I had to play around a bit to get the color I wanted. I had to use Atoll (YR65) for the deeper shade of gold and then pull it out with Acid Yellow (Y08) to get a decent blend. It’s a small image so it worked out okay.
I used my palest shade of yellow, Mimosa Yellow (YG00) at the base of both sets of wings, and then pulled it out with Crystal Opal (G0000) to make the wings appear kind of iridescent. I added a little Spectrum Noir Shimmer Pen on the wings and the flowers give it a fun touch. My littlest grand, who is 8 years old, will want to give this to his teacher as he tells me she likes bees. Bee Kind, Bee Creative, and that kind of thing are things she says a lot to the class.
For my last project, I have a card made using the Coffee Cup Stencil and the Sponsored by Stamp Set. Who doesn’t need that first cup of coffee in the morning to get their day going? I like to take my first cup out on our deck and drink it before heading into my office to work. I used a very pale blue-based grey ink for the steam. This is just a very simple card to send to someone I have contact with often but haven’t seen due to Covid-19. It’s something tangible for her to hold so she'll know I've been thinking of her.
